· Talk about absentee ballots!
Astronauts E. Michael Fincke and Gregory Chamitoff cast ballots on Monday from outer space using laptop computers with a secure connection. Their polling place: the International Space Station, which orbits about 250 miles above Earth.
The Texas legislature voted in 1997 to allow astronauts based in Houston to vote while in space. The first astronaut to do so was David Wolf in 2004 while aboard the Russian space station Mir.
· Barack Obama learned on Monday, the day before the election, that his grandmother had died of cancer at age 86.
Obama lived with Madelyn Dunham in Hawaii when he was young. He flew there last month to see her.
Obama has said she was a big reason he became successful.
