Who’s the quarterback?
Maryland Coach Randy Edsall forced Boston College to prepare for two different quarterback styles by choosing to not name a starter until game time and leaving open the possibility of playing both C.J. Brown and Danny O’Brien. Florida State knew how mobile Brown was because the Seminoles had seen the sophomore run for 286 yards in the previous two games. The Seminoles sacked Brown four times and held him to zero net rushing yards in a 41-16 win last weekend. Florida State also has one of the nation’s best rushing defenses, but Boston College ranks 72nd in rushing defense, 99th in total defense and 113th in sacks. Linebacker Luke Kuechly leads the nation in tackles.
bad defense vs. bad offense
Maryland’s injury-depleted defense has gotten a couple of players back, but it will be without linebacker Kenny Tate the rest of the season. The Terrapins rank 110th nationally in rushing defense and 109th in total defense. They are also 116th in opponents’ third-down conversions. Tackling has at times been a significant concern. But the Eagles’ offense may be even worse without injured standout running back Montel Harris. They average just 114.29 rushing yards per game, 311 total yards per game and only 18.7 points per game.
