A man who fired a gun and ignored orders to drop it was shot and killed in Northeast Washington Monday night in a confrontation with D.C. police officers, police said.
The incident occurred about 7 p.m. in the 5300 block of Clay Terrace NE, according to D.C. police spokeswoman Gwen Crump.
She said officers were sent there in response to a report that a man who was high on PCP was firing a gun.
When they arrived, Crump said, police encountered an armed man who “was firing a weapon.”
The officers ordered him to drop it, but he did not, she said.
The officers fired their service weapons, striking the man. After he was hit, they performed CPR until D.C. fire and emergency medical personnel arrived.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His name was not released, pending notification of relatives. It was not known immediately whether the man lived in the Clay Terrace area or why he was there.
