LG had the privilege of kicking off Monday’s marathon of press conferences at this year’s Consumer Electronics show.
LG is known as a manufacturer of smartphones, televisions, washing machines, refrigerators and other appliances, and the company took pains to make announcements that covered a variety of its products.
One of the most-hyped devices in the LG presentation was the company’s huge 55-inch nearly bezel-free television, which sports an OLED screen, which is supposed to deliver truer colors and sharper images.
The company said it will continue to chase after the 3D TV trend— despite the fact that the technology has yet to really take off— by continuing to use its passive 3D technology. That technology requires glasses, but doesn’t force users to charge up the peripherals separately.
LG also said that it will make at least half of its television line-up “smart,” meaning they will be connected to the Web. The company also revealed plans to make the televisions voice- and gesture-controlled using a special remote control and a device that looks a lot like the Microsoft Kinect. Users will also be able to mirror their televisions on their smartphones.
