Rod Hairston, who led the Eleanor Roosevelt girls’ basketball team to five consecutive Maryland 4A girls’ basketball titles from 2004-09, has been named coach at Bullis. He replaces Kira Orr, who resigned from her coaching position.
Hairston, the 2006 All-Met Coach of the Year, said Friday afternoon that his hiring became official on Thursday. He inherits a young team that includes 6-foot-2 sophomore forward Lynee Belton, considered one of the top players in her graduating class in the country.
This will mark Hairston’s fourth school in as many years. He left Eleanor Roosevelt to coach at McNamara, where he was dismissed after one season. He was an emergency interim coach last year at Northwestern. This season he helped Wise Coach Walter Clark.
“The talent [at Bullis] is exceptional,” Hairston, 43, said. “Kira did a great job developing the program and I just hope to be able to continue and grow from where she left off.
