A pit bull was shot and killed by Montgomery County police Tuesday night after it attacked two teenagers, authorities said.
Officers went to the 20400 block of Boulder Ridge Terrace in the Gaithersburg area at about 9 p.m. after receiving a report that two dogs had bitten a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, said Capt. Paul Starks, a county police spokesman.
He said a sheriff’s deputy and an officer tried to subdue the more aggressive dog with stun guns. However, he said, the devices were ineffective.
The dog continued to act aggressively, and two officers fired what were believed to be fewer than six shots, Starks said. He said the other dog apparently had not attacked and was confined.
The teenagers were taken to a hospital, the boy with arm and leg wounds and the girl with arm, leg and neck wounds. Police were speaking with the dogs’ owners late Tuesday, Starks said.
