Sick dog: Adams St. NE, 1500 block, March 16. A Humane Society officer discovered a pit bull with a severely distended abdomen and advised its owner to take it to a veterinarian. The dog was suffering from heart failure and was euthanized.

Cat exceeds size: Farragut Pl. NW, unit block, March 16. A Humane Society officer met with a man who threatened an adoption agency to let his cat loose because the agency would not trade his overgrown cat for a smaller one. The man said he was upset and is working with the landlord to allow him to keep the cat.

Bad escape route: Ninth St. NW, 4000 block, March 17. A Yorkshire terrier grabbed food from a table and jumped out a fifth-floor window. The dog was in critical condition at a hospital.

Adoptable cats: Georgia Ave. NW, 7300 block, Dec. 15. A 3-year-old cat and her kittens were surrendered to the shelter.

Adoptable Kentucky dogs: Oglethorpe St. NW, unit block, March 20. The league received 39 dogs seized from a puppy mill in Kentucky. The animals include dachshunds, Chihuahuas and miniature pinschers.

Mega Match-a-Thon: The Washington Animal Rescue League will have dogs and cats available for adoption at an event sponsored by the ASPCA from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Adoption fees are $20 for cats and $40 for dogs. warl.org/mega.
