Loudoun County animal watch

These were among cases received by Loudoun County Animal Services. For information on the county shelter’s hours and location, adoption and licensing, rabies clinics and low-cost neutering, call 703-777-0406 in eastern Loudoun or 540-882-3211 in western Loudoun.

Dog owner cited: Fort Evans Rd., Leesburg, March 17. A dog was reported to have been left in a car. An animal control officer, using an infrared temperature gun, determined that the car’s internal temperature was 105 degrees. The dog’s owner was issued a citation.

Stray dog: Nestlewood Rd., Leesburg, March 18. A stray dog wearing a collar with tags and identification was reported. When an animal control officer tried to return the dog to its home, no one answered the door. The officer left a notice and took the dog to the shelter.

Too young to be out alone: Concrete Plaza, Sterling, March 19. A caller reported finding a very young kitten by itself. An animal control officer took the kitten, which was about a week old, to a veterinary office.

Horse sense: Mansfield Manor Lane, Aldie, March 19. Emaciated horses were reported. An animal control officer went to the property to observe the horses and advise the owner of the complaint. The horses were found to be of appropriate weight and with adequate food and shelter.

Raccoon plays possum: Douglas Ct., Sterling, March 20. A sick raccoon was reported to be sleeping near a car in a parking lot. When an animal control officer approached, the raccoon woke up and ran into a wooded area.
