How would you like to have dinner at the White House?
First lady Michelle Obama is asking kids between the ages of 8 and 12 to work with their parents to create a nutritious lunch. A winner from each state, plus Washington, Puerto Rico and the U.S. territories, will be invited to a White House Kids State Dinner in the summer.
Your recipe should include all of the food groups. (In case you’ve forgotten: fruit, vegetables, whole grains, protein and dairy.) You can either include them all in one recipe or have some as side dishes to your main part of the meal.
Besides being healthful, your meal should be creative, affordable . . . and, of course, it should be delicious!
The first lady started Let’s Move to help kids learn about eating better and exercising more as a way to help solve the problem of childhood obesity in this country.
