I appreciated Gene Wang’s description of the relationship between Tiger Woods and Bo Van Pelt as they competed for the recent PGA championship [“Longtime friends stage a compelling first round,” Sports, July 2]. But I was startled to read about the “20-year friendship between he [Van Pelt] and Woods . . .”
Really? Perhaps the steamy weather is responsible for the failure of the reporter to use the proper objective case of the pronoun (“him”) following the preposition. I hope such poor grammar does not become par for the course.
