Rep. Michele Bachmann’s accusations regarding Huma Abedin, deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, are absurd and deplorable [“McCain defends Clinton aide accused by 5 in GOP,” front page, July 19].
Recognizing that the strong suit of Ms. Bachmann (R-Minn.) is clearly not foreign policy or cultural understanding, certainly her service in Congress and in particular on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence over the past few years should have been instructional on what a progressive and liberal-minded Muslim woman’s attitude might be toward the Muslim Brotherhood.
Given what Ms. Bachmann and her compatriots should know, and how they should behave, as leaders and representatives of this country, their actions are that much more appalling. Have partisan politics become so prevalent in this Congress that nothing is sacred?

I give kudos to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for speaking out and defending Huma Abedin against what seem to be spurious allegations by Rep. Michele Bachmann and four of her Republican colleagues.
