Trey Taylor has been dismissed as Robinson’s football coach after just two seasons. The Rams went 9-13 in that span, twice losing in the first round of the Virginia AAA Northern Region Division 6 playoffs. This season, the Rams finished 5-6 and fell 56-21 to Chantilly in an Oct. 9 region quarterfinal.
“Robinson High School has high standards for its programs and we felt that our football program was not meeting those standards, so we decided to make a change,” Robinson Athletic Director Jeff Ferrell said in a Sunday phone interview.
Taylor said he was informed of his dismissal on Wednesday by Robinson principal Dan Meier. The night before, the school held its fall sports awards banquet where Taylor said he expressed his excitement for the program’s future.
“I was pretty surprised,” Taylor said in a Monday phone interview. “For me, I couldn’t believe we were only given 18 months from the time I was hired to now being fired. I felt like we were moving in the right direction. Whoever takes over has a really good group coming back and I’m disappointed that I’m not going to have the opportunity to see them through.”
