Yahoo introduced a new look for its mail service Tuesday by opting for a cleaner look. The company also followed up on a promise from chief executive Marissa Mayer that it will be thinking first and foremost about the mobile experience.
To that end, Mayer introduced a new Yahoo mail app for Android, Windows Phone 8 devices and all-new apps for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.
“You’ve told us loud and clear that you want fewer distractions when it comes to email. You want to quickly login, communicate, and get on with your day,” Mayer wrote in a company blog post. “We’ve redesigned the new version of Yahoo! Mail with speed in mind -- getting through your emails is faster than ever before.”
Over on the Yahoo e-mail blog, the company’s mail team had a few more things to say when discussing their approach to designing the service for multiple platforms. The look of Yahoo mail on the computer is meant to be all about productivity, while the mobile version is more about monitoring mail and firing off quick replies.
