Lynn Vandermey moved into her Burke townhouse last year and has never been in love with the 7-by-9-foot foyer. “It takes a special vision, and I don’t have it!” she wrote. She needs a place for coats and hats as well as a washable rug, because muddy boots can be a problem. But she does not want the space to look like a mud room.
By painting the walls a bold blue and adding texture through a green and white area rug, designer Ebonee Bachman gave the dull entryway new life.

Replace the ceiling light with something more elegant, such as this white silk drum shade with a metal overlay.
Bring the outdoors in. Paint the walls Benjamin Moore’s Crisp Morning Air to make the entryway fresh and inviting.
Use art to tie the color scheme together. This print of a Vincent van Gogh painting uses blue, green and white.
