Former Virginia Tech men’s basketball star Erick Green has agreed to terms on a one-year contract to play with the Italian professional team Montepaschi Siena during the 2013-14 season, his agent confirmed Tuesday.
Green was acquired by the Denver Nuggets in a trade after he was selected by the Utah Jazz with the No. 46 pick in the second round of the 2013 NBA draft. The Winchester native was the first Virginia Tech player to be picked in the NBA draft since Deron Washington in 2008.
Earlier this month he averaged 9.3 points per game as part of Denver’s NBA summer league team in Las Vegas. But Green, a two-time All Met who played at Paul VI Catholic, was unlikely to earn a roster spot this season after the Nuggets recently signed free agent point guards Nate Robinson and Randy Foye. Denver already had point guards Ty Lawson and Andre Miller returning from last year.
