A construction worker was fatally injured Monday in an accident at the Federal Center in Suitland, authorities said. A cap on a steam pipe blew off as he was trying to remove it about 11 a.m. at a construction site in the 4200 block of Suitland Road, said Mark E. Brady, spokesman for the Prince George's County fire and rescue department. The 8-inch diameter pipe, which was apparently being installed in a boiler area, carried air at high pressure at the time, Brady said.

Metro Transit Police are investigating an accident involving a Transit Police captain who struck a pedestrian with a police car last month near the Anacostia Metro station in Southeast Washington, officials said yesterday. MOSCOW, Nov. 9 -- Prosecutors opened a negligence probe Sunday into an accident aboard a new, nuclear-powered Russian submarine that killed 20 people, saying the victims appeared to have suffocated after a fire-safety system flooded two sections of the vessel with a gas that displaces oxygen. A navy spokesman, Capt. Igor Dygalo, said the vessel was not damaged and returned to a Pacific Coast military shipyard on its own power after the accident, which occurred Saturday night during a test run in the Sea of Japan.

An accident Wednesday night in which at least two people were pinned in a car on Suitland Parkway in Southeast Washington has left one man dead, according to D.C. police.
