Chris Kelly, half of the 1990s rap duo who performed one of the decade's most memorable songs, "Jump," died May 1 at an Atlanta hospital of an apparent drug overdose, authorities said. He was 34. Mr. Kelly, known as "Mac Daddy," and Chris Smith, known as "Daddy Mac," made up Kris Kross. The rappers were known for wearing their clothes backward as they rhymed. Mr. Kelly's mother, Donna Kelly Pratte, told authorities her son became sick after taking cocaine and heroin the night before he died.

PHILADELPHIA — After a two-month trial and 10 days of deliberation, a jury on Monday decided that Baby A, Baby C and Baby D lived a few fleeting moments outside their mothers' wombs before their spinal cords were severed at Kermit Gosnell' s abortion clinic in West Philadelphia. The way those brief lives ended didn't amount to abortion but to three acts of first-degree murder, jurors concluded. Gosnell, in a dark suit and a maroon shirt, furrowed his brow and shook his head slightly but remained stoic when the verdicts were read in a packed Philadelphia courtroom just before 3 p.m. One juror appeared to cry. Prosecutors smiled in relief and later hugged colleagues.

LONDON (Reuters) - Michael Jackson's new single "This Is It" began streaming online and playing across the radio airwaves Monday, nearly four months after the "king of pop" died of a prescription drug overdose aged 50. The track, which features backing vocals by Jackson's brothers, opens with a soft, soulful introduction and the lines: "This is it, here I stand/I'm the light of the world, I feel grand. " It will be available to buy as part of the two-disc album "This Is It" which hits the shelves internationally on October 26 and in North America on October 27 to coincide with the global release of the Jackson movie of the same name on October 28. A short collection of clips from the film were also featured on websites showing Jackson and backing dancers rehearsing their routines for a run of 50 comeback shows at London's O2 Arena which the singer had been preparing for when he died.

LOS ANGELES, July 20 -- Batman has sent Spidey packing as king of Hollywood's box office superheroes. "The Dark Knight" took in a record $155.34 million in its first weekend, topping the previous best of $151.1 million for "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007 and pacing Hollywood to its biggest weekend ever, according to studio estimates Sunday. TAMPA, Jan. 27 -- Doctors who have been studying the long-term effects of concussions on football players have discovered another case of a player suffering from a brain condition that could lead to dementia or Alzheimer's. Recent studies of the brain tissue of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Tom McHale showed he had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease caused by head trauma most often associated with a condition that plagues former boxers called punch-drunk syndrome.

ATLANTA -- T.I. didn't need to attend the BET Hip-Hop Awards to win two trophies on Saturday. The rapper, who is locked up in an Arkansas penitentiary on a federal weapons conviction, won the best collaboration award with Rhianna for the song "Live Your Life" and the album of the year award for "Paper Trail. " His fiancee Tameka "Tiny" Cottle accepted his awards at the ceremony in Atlanta and read a letter by the rapper, who began serving a yearlong sentence in late May. "Although I'm not there with you all, I'm there in spirit," Cottle quoted the rapper as writing.

A medical examiner's report shows a heroin overdose caused the death of Georgia Tech pitcher Michael Hutts . The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office released the report yesterday. The report offers the final word on what killed the 21-year-old baseball player, who was found dead in his Atlanta apartment on April 11. Police suspected an accidental drug overdose from the beginning. Hutts's roommate, Ryan Tinkoff , told police Hutts had injected heroin in the past and believed he may have used heroin the night of April 10. But investigators have been sifting through the medical evidence.

AMC's "Breaking Bad," the critically-acclaimed show following anti-hero meth manufacturer Walter White, took home the top honor at Sunday night's 65th Emmy Awards , winning for best drama just an hour after its penultimate episode aired. ABC's "Modern Family" won its fourth consecutive trophy for comedy series in a ceremony that ended about 12 minutes late, after a show packed with somber tributes to deceased actors and industry veterans. "This may be the saddest Emmys of all time, but we could not be happier," said "Modern Family" executive producer Steve Levitan.

Annie Leibovitz's financial picture just got a bit brighter. The celeb photographer, known for her images of some of the world's most famous people, staved off possible bankruptcy when Art Capital Group, her chief creditor, announced Friday it was extending the due date on a $24 million loan she was scheduled to repay Tuesday. Under the terms of the deal, Art Capital said Leibovitz regained control of her properties -- including a farm and three Greenwich Village townhouses -- and the copyrights for all her past and future work, our colleague Keith B. Richburg reports.
