Sue Dillon, 81, a Foreign Service wife who taught elementary school abroad for 13 years, died Jan. 16 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington County. She suffered complications from diabetes and vascular disease, said her daughter Elizabeth Porter. Caroline Sue Burch was born in New York City and raised in Arlington. She was a 1949 graduate of the old Western High School in Washington and received a bachelor's degree in history from George Washington University in 1960. For 90 carefully dressed and reasonably solemn fifth-graders in Rockville, the passage from elementary school began Monday evening at 5:30 when they marched into an auditorium overflowing with parents, balloons and the strains of "Pomp and Circumstance. " For nearly an hour and a half, they sat — skinny necks leaning from buttoned collars and little hands wringing satin skirts — through two adult speakers, a slide show of their elementary years and remarks by four classmates.

A man's body was found in a wooded area near a Fairfax County elementary school this morning, and police are trying to determine whether it is a 31-year-old Burke man who has been missing since last week. Irving I. Lipskind, 86, a retired Montgomery County elementary school principal, died May 26 at the Bedford Court senior living facility in Silver Spring. He had congestive heart failure, said his wife, Diane Lipskind. Mr. Lipskind was a longtime Silver Spring resident and worked for Montgomery County public schools for about three decades. A 23-year-old District man was shot and fatally wounded yesterday as he stood with several other neighborhood residents on the steps of Truesdell Elementary School at Eighth and Ingraham streets NW.
