Ten minutes before his debut as a CNN host last Monday, Roland Martin called his pastor back in Chicago. They proceeded to pray. His divine hope, says Martin, who has repeated the ritual each evening, is "that God uses me as an instrument for his will to provide insight to those who are listening. " As Martin speaks, in great cascades of words that flow by like a rushing river, it is clear this is no garden-variety pundit. He is African American, the first to host a prime-time cable news program since Alan Keyes's brief run on MSNBC seven years ago....

Jeremiah Wilson ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and host Handley forced three Park View turnovers in a 33-7 victory in the Virginia AA Region II Divison 3 final on Saturday. Handley's defense held All-District running back Daryus Beale to less than 35 yards and wide receiver Tommy Sedeski to no catches. Bill Trumbull, who regaled Washington's radio audiences for two decades as co-host of an easy-going and top-rated afternoon program, died of respiratory failure Jan. 10 at Prince William Hospital in Manassas. He was 77. The death was confirmed by his former on-air partner, Chris Core. WMAL's "Trumbull and Core" program was a staple of the weekday evening commute from 1976 to 1996.
