Apple didn't send out invitations for an iPad mini launch event on Wednesday, as had been expected, but that's been barely a hiccup in the rumor mill. Apple is rumored to be working on an iPad mini, or 7-inch tablet, and a recent post from iMore suggested that the smaller tablet could be slated for an October release. The blog cites an unnamed source who said that Apple might price its smaller tablet aggressively, to push out competitors. The tablet, according to the source, would have the retina display of the third-generation iPad and would make up costs by cutting back on the memory in the mini device — offering just 8 GB. If Apple does offer a smaller...

Apple announced Friday that, with approval in hand from the Chinese government, the company will begin selling its iPhone 5 and WiFi versions of its iPad mini starting Dec. 7. The fourth-generation iPad will also go on sale at the same time. According to the company's release, customers must make reservations at Apple stores to pick up the gadgets in person. Stores will accept those requests daily during regular business hours for next-day pickup. The gadgets will also, of course, be sold online.
