The vengeful gods of ancient Greece devised devilishly clever punishments. The hunter Actaeon found that out when he glimpsed Artemis bathing in a pool. The goddess, her chastity offended, transformed Actaeon into a stag, to be hunted down and killed by his own pack of dogs. The legend was the subject of " Acteon ," a hunting party pastoral composed in 1684 by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, given a rare revival by Opera Lafayette on Thursday night at the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater.

It seemed to take Georgetown's starters a few minutes on Saturday to recognize that the three-pointers Lafayette kept swishing were the result of skill rather than luck. But once the 18th-ranked Hoyas clamped down on the three-point line, they turned what started out as a close contest into a rout. By the time the buzzer sounded on Georgetown's 97-64 victory, six Hoyas had scored in double figures -- a first under Coach John Thompson III. The reminders were everywhere. The newspapers, shaken and crinkled in jest by Terrapins fans during pregame introductions, proclaimed the University of Maryland's move to the Big Ten official. When university President Wallace D. Loh entered Comcast Center midway through the second half Tuesday night, chants began of "Big Ten, Big Ten. " And during a promotional advertisement for the Atlantic Coast Conference on the overhead video board, one student waved goodbye. Coach Mark Turgeon's team learned...

Opera Layfayette director and violinist Ryan Brown paired baroque and romantic works in one concert to underline a connection between the two sets: the later composers...
