Earlier this spring, Sen. Rand Paul and his wife, Kelley, invited a crew from the Christian Broadcasting Network into their Kentucky home for what turned into two full days of reality TV. In a half-hour special, "At Home With Rand Paul," the couple are seen bird-watching in the woods, going to McDonald's and, especially, talking about religion — their belief in traditional marriage and the senator's call for a "spiritual cleansing" in America....

HANOVER, N.H. -- The race for electoral votes could be so close in November that small states may well pick the next president. Among those diminutive states, New Hampshire is by far the most interesting. Consider that in 2000, George W. Bush beat Al Gore here by 7,211 votes (Ralph Nader got just over 22,000). If New Hampshire's four electoral votes had gone the other way, Gore would have won, and Florida would not have mattered. New Hampshire is also one of only three states that changed sides between 2000 and 2004, and the only one that...

Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), an event certain to add to the buzz about O'Malley's presidential ambitions, given that Shaheen hails from New Hampshire. Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) is the other host of the fundraiser, being held at a residence in Owings Mills. Tickets for the event start at $1,000, according to an invitation, which lists O'Malley's O'Say Can You See political action committee as the organizer.

A "fiasco," one analyst called it. Another observer called it a "snafu. " In short, the pre-election polls before the New Hampshire primary in 2008 were a disaster. The numbers had anticipated a clear result: It would be a second, major win for then-Sen. Barack Obama over Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who had been the overwhelming favorite for the Democratic nomination. Instead, Clinton won by about two percentage points, setting off the polling industry's biggest reevaluation since the infamous "Dewey defeats Truman" headlines of...

NEW YORK, June 3 -- New Hampshire this afternoon became the sixth state to allow gay marriage, after Gov. John Lynch (D) signed a revised bill approved by both houses of the legislature. The state senate passed the bill by a vote of 14 to 10, and the house followed later with a vote of 198 to 176. Lynch immediately signed the bill, which included revisions he had insisted upon. The changes give protections from lawsuits for organizations that refuse to participate in same-sex ceremonies on religious grounds.

SEN. JOHN MCCAIN (R-ARIZ.): ... New Hampshire, I know I can count on you again to come from behind. (APPLAUSE) To again come from behind and take a victory and bring it all the way to Washington, D.C., next January. And, my friends, I'm asking you to come out one more time. Get out the vote. Get them out and we'll win and we'll have a great election night here. (APPLAUSE) And, my friends, my happiest -- some of my happiest, happiest memories are being here in this wonderful state.

"The problem with the Republican Party is Republicans. " This quote is taken not from the recent report of a Republican task force but from the mind of yours truly. It is, however, the message of the 97-page " Growth & Opportunity Project " report, which urges the party to get with the program (the 21st century) on gays, immigration, corporate greed and even same-sex marriage. The report was written by five important moderate Republicans who would like the GOP to be more like themselves.

It's official. Jon Huntsman Jr.'s campaign strategy is New Hampshire or bust. Huntsman , who has gained some traction in recent Granite State polls, will pull up stakes in Florida, moving his campaign headquarters to the first Republican primary state. The move is the clearest sign yet that the former Utah governor and Obama ambassador to China has retrenched from his initial three-state strategy to win the 2012 GOP nomination. Furthermore, a number of Florida staffers were informed...

Ayotte was a key, high-profile vote against the bipartisan plan to expand the national gun background-check program, which failed in the Senate two weeks ago despite overwhelming public support and extensive...

Only two states — New Hampshire and Florida — failed to meet the Dec. 14 deadline to decide on a way to implement a health insurance exchange system, as required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The two offer the last of the business opportunities for these exchanges, which have provided a boost for technologies specializing in health information technology. New Hampshire is actively resisting the requirement. In September, the state passed legislation prohibiting the establishment of a...

Regarding the Dec. 2 front-page article " Mitt's life post-election? It's no roller coaster. ": I voted for Mitt Romney, and I read The Post regularly. After reading this article, which struck me as very critical and personal in nature, I feel the need to remind The Post that Romney is now a private citizen. Yes, he was a presidential candidate, but he did not win the election. It is time to move on and focus coverage on topics that we as a country need to discuss. Say what you will about Romney, but a presidential race...

LAS VEGAS — The Republican presidential candidates broke camp here Wednesday morning after their rowdy debate the night before and left behind some unfinished business: Will Nevada or New Hampshire blink in their increasingly nasty dispute over the 2012 primary and caucus calendar? Several Republican candidates have vowed not to participate in Nevada's GOP caucuses, now set for Jan. 14. They have declared solidarity with New Hampshire, whose secretary of state, William Gardner, has been demanding that Nevada move its...
