Prioritize. The family's nanny helps Beverly and Jules with their homework and takes them shopping for school supplies, but Staples handles the twins' meals herself. "I really care about what they eat," she said in an e-mail. "Not that I don't care about homework, but they'll always remember the taste of home, and I want them to be open to new tastes and flavors. " Take the kids to "real" restaurants. When the family goes out to eat, they often go to restaurants that do not hand out crayons and puzzle place mats.

Many working moms have to structure their lives around the demands of their jobs, choosing a home close to where they work and scheduling their childrens' activities around meetings and work obligations. Justin Timberlake's campaign to charm the universe in its entirety breezed through the White House on Tuesday as he sang, laughed, made others laugh, confessed to stalking the Rev. Al Green and pontificated on the greater spiritual properties of music itself. The 32-year-old Memphis-born omnipresence floated into the East Room about 8 p.m. as if he lived upstairs. Then he sang "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay" as if he wrote it. Then he threw his arm over the shoulder of...

Cleotha Staples, the eldest sibling in the influential gospel group the Staple Singers, died Feb. 21 at her home in Chicago. She was 78 and had Alzheimer's disease, said Bill Carpenter, a family friend and music publicist. The family's music career had its roots with Roebuck "Pops" Staples, a manual laborer who strummed a $10 guitar while teaching his children gospel songs to keep them entertained in the evenings. After the family sang in church one Sunday morning in 1948 and received a...

Best Buy will join Staples this weekend in selling Microsoft's Surface tablet, previously available only online and at Microsoft's own stores. The electronics retailer made the announcement Thursday, saying that it will start selling the device on Dec. 16. Staples began selling the Surface on Wednesday. That's good news for Microsoft, which is likely to benefit from more consumer exposure to the Surface and its tile-based Windows RT operating system. The Surface tablet costs $499 for a 32 GB version without a...
