The City Title basketball games will be played at Verizon Center on March 4, the result of a deal similar to the one that was struck less than two weeks before last year's game. Dawn Slonneger, chief of staff to D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray (D), who helped negotiate the deal this year and last, said the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association and the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference have an agreement with Washington Sports & Entertainment Chairman Abe Pollin by which WSE will retain enough gate receipts to cover...

Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line" resonated through the downstairs bar at Iron Horse Taproom on a recent weeknight, but with the exception of a few patrons playing shuffleboard and another handful surrounding a table, the Man in Black serenaded mostly unoccupied orange and black barstools. On such a night last year, Iron Horse would have been brimming with an early crowd until about 6:30 p.m., when the majority would take the half-block walk to Verizon Center for a Washington Capitals game only to return after.

Coldplay is sort of a Nickelback for cool kids. Over the past decade, the chart-friendly U.K. quartet has inspired ridicule at about the same rate it has record sales. The Web site Yahoo Answers, an Encyclopedia Britannica in our social media age, even has an entry titled: "Why do people hate Coldplay so much?" Yahoo's "voters' choice" for "best answer": "Its [sic] boring. " Another possible and similarly syntaxed explanation for all the Coldplay animus could be "Because Ive never seen it. " In any case, nobody...

Pink's first major tour was in the year 2000. She opened for 'N Sync at the height of our nation's last boy-band, teen-pop craze, and back then, she was the neon-haired, smokin'-in-the-girls-room alternative to the ruling class of coy, blond Britneys, Mandys and Jessicas. Thirteen years, six albums and three Grammys later, the feisty little bird-flipper with a heart of gold has turned out to be the true overachiever of that bunch — and Thursday night, she reminded fans packed into a sold-out Verizon Center...
